answer: the revolutionary war, also known as the american war of independence, was a war from 1775 to 1783 between great britain and its thirteen colonies, which declared independence as the united states of america in 1776. people who wanted the colonies to gain independence and form their own country called the united states were referred to as patriots. they didn't feel that the treatment colonists received was fair, and one of the main issues was that they were being taxed without any representation in the british parliament. as dissatisfaction grew, they wanted to be a part of an independent country, which britain would have no ruler.
