Why did the southern cotton industry have a hard time recovering after the civil war?

Explanation: The cotton industry of the South had difficulties to recover after the civil war because many of the slaves who worked hard in the cultivation and cotton plantations, obtained their freedom which resulted in less production of this raw material since the hand of work became scarce and lacking this, production costs rose. The situation was so difficult that given the declining number of cotton exports to Europe, many textile workers were laid off, events that affected the economy of that continent strongly. However, it took a long time for this recovery process to occur.
