The correct answer is: "Both cases involved interpretation of the Fourteenth Amendment".

The Brown v. Board of Education was a landmark decision issued by the US Supreme Court in 1954. It declared unconstitutional the laws issued at the state state which aimed to perform segretation between black and white students in public schools.

This decission overruled a previous one from 1896, which was in fact the resolution of the the Plessy v. Ferguson case. This decision legimitized, under the Constitution, the existence of segregated education facilities as long as these were equal in quality. It actually introduced the principle of "separate but equal".

Both resolutions were opposite interpretations of the provisions of the Fourteenth Amendment to the US Constitution, more spefically of its Equal Protection Clause, that guaranteed equal protection by law to any US citizen without discrimination in terms of race and others.

The Plessy v. Ferguson case had considered that, as long as equal quality was provided, segregation was not violating the Equal Protection Clause. Fortunately, the Supreme Court in the The Brown v. Board of Education understood it differently, and dismantled segregation forever.
