Although we do not know which specific migrations were discussed in the lecture, we can still look at other migrations that have happened in modern times.
One example was the "Great Migration" that took place in the United States between 1910 and 1970. During these years, approximately 7 million African Americans migrated from the South of the United States to the industrial cities of the North. This was a consequence of the fact that racism and discrimination was rampant in the South. Moreover, the North offered better job opportunities.
Another example of a large migration occured in the years immediately before and during World War II. Durint these years, many people experienced forced displacement, persecution and deportation. This was particularly the case with Jewish people and other persecuted groups. The main immediate reason was the racist policies of the Nazi Party and the outbreak of the war.
Two migrations are force migration and immigration. Force migration is where people are forced to move to a different area. An example of this is slaves from Africa being forced to America. Immigration is migration of a people to a different place in hopes of a better life.
